MANILA, Aug. 26 (PNA) — President Benigno S. Aquino III and membes of the Liberty paid tribute to the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo during the memorial service Saturday evening at the Kalayaan Hall of Malacanang.
Among Liberal Party’s stalwarts who delivered their eulogies for Robredo include Liberal Party president and Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas; Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Mujiv Hataman, Sen. Francisco Pangilinan, and House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte.
“Masakit para sa atin ang pagkawala n’ya. Nawalan tayo ng isang tapat at totoong kaibigan. Nawalan tayo ng isang masipag at masinop na katrabaho sa gobyerno at sa partido. Nawalan tayo ng isang maaasahang kasangga sa mga laban na ang tagal na nating isinusulong,” Roxas said in his message.
“As we look around us, we see the blossom of all his hardwork— urban poor, mga biktima ng krimen at pang-aabuso, mga walang mapupuntahan, mga governors, mayors, LGUs, mga kabataan. Kung meron mang takeaway mula sa pangyayaring ito, it was that Jesse was willing to give his all for what is right,” he added.
Singers Ogie Alcasid and Christian Bautista also performed during the memorial service.
There was a mass prior to the Liberal Party’s memorial service, which was attended by Robredo’s fellow Cabinet members, the Robredo family, friends and other officials.
